Oak Music Director
I was raised in Shelby, North Carolina before moving to the area in 1998 to pursue English and Music degrees from UNC Chapel Hill. After internships at Walt Disney World and the Southeast Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church, I began playing in local bands including SpencerAcuff, Roman Candle, Max Indian, and Thad Cockrell, eventually touring the country and England.
In 2005, I started Arbor Ridge Studios, where I produced records by Brett Harris, Chris Stamey, and Mandolin Orange, among many others. I joined the Gathering Church in 2009, having known Mark well and looking to answer a call to the music ministry.
I am intrigued by the meeting place of Christian and non-Christian culture. Our recordings and music on Sunday mornings aim to bridge that gap, aided by a steady stream of church volunteers and a rotating cast of local musicians. Our goal is to work not only in the Church but in the community: playing downtowns, venues, and festivals. We also aim to work with other Christian groups, such as Cardiphonia, to collaborate on new material. Our music is often inspired by the work of Bifrost Arts, Grace and Peace Church, the Followers, the Gentle Wolves, Indelible Grace, and many others who are doing this work already.
I live in the woods of Chatham County with my wife Molly, studio technician/dog Moose, and a cat named Sandwich. I continue to record at my home studio as well as the Fidelitorium in Kernersville, and tour withMandolin Orange, Spooky Woods, and my own solo material.
