Introducing 2016-17 Pastoral Intern: Sarah Neff

Sarah is excited to be this year’s intern from Duke Divinity School where she is a second year dual MDiv/MSW student. She grew up outside of Chicago, studied literature and theater at Wheaton College, and fled the Midwest for Colorado after graduation. There, she worked for a para-church guiding outfitter, helping to run their backpacking program. She cherishes memories of llama-wrangling and cleaning camping stoves. During those years, Sarah felt increasingly called towards social work and loved the idea of combining a theological education with that work.

In 2015, she chased that dream across the country to Durham. She works as a Graduate Resident on Duke’s freshman campus, and loves getting to see college students grow in their first year. She still loves to play outside, and can be found backpacking, rafting, and climbing around the southeast whenever school allows. She loves art and art-making, wants to own a dog in the next 3 years, and can’t ever eat enough sweet potatoes. She loves college kids and hopes to eventually use her social work degree to work with students.

She is so excited to be at Oak Church and to continue participating in the vibrant community she’s found there.
