Cristal Ocampo Ruiz

Pastoral Intern

I am originally from Mexico but consider my home, the town of Siler City, NC which was also the home of Frances Bavier, Aunt Bee from The Andy Griffith Show. I still live there, and commute to Durham for school. I live with my husband, Pedro, and 3 children, Adrian and Emely. Our oldest, Julian, just went away to college! And, of course, we love the company of our furry friends, Micah and Gaia.

My favorite hang out place in Durham is Mezcalito with my husband for date night. One random fact about me is that I love to dance, especially Latin music. I competed in a salsa dance off and won second place.

When I’m not at Oak enjoying the potluck, you will find me cheering on my kids at soccer and dance, reading biographies and psychological thrillers, and cooking my favorite Mexican food. If you’d like to talk about mental health, healing and the intersectionality of faith, spirituality, family, community and the crucial role they play in holistic well-being, then I’m your person.
